Latest USCIS Updates: H-2B Visa Cap and Naturalization Trends

At Easy USA Citizenship, we strive to keep our subscribers informed about the latest changes and statistics from USCIS that could affect their path to U.S. citizenship. Here’s what you need to know from the recent USCIS updates on H-2B visa caps and naturalization statistics.

H-2B Visa Cap Reached for Returning Workers

USCIS recently announced that the cap for the additional 19,000 H-2B visas available for returning workers for the early second half of Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 has been reached. The final receipt date for these petitions was April 17, 2024. This cap was part of the H-2B supplemental cap temporary final rule for FY 2024, indicating strong demand for these visas. USCIS

Additional H-2B Visa Opportunities

Despite reaching the cap for returning workers, USCIS is still accepting petitions under a separate allotment of 20,000 H-2B visas for nationals from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, Colombia, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. These visas are aimed at helping address labor shortages without requiring applicants to meet the returning worker requirement. USCIS

Naturalization Statistics Highlight Growth and Diversity

In Fiscal Year 2023, USCIS welcomed 878,500 new citizens during naturalization ceremonies worldwide. The top countries of birth for these new citizens were Mexico, India, the Philippines, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba. The largest numbers of new citizens were from regions with robust immigrant communities which provide substantial support during the naturalization process. USCIS

Financial Support for Applicants

USCIS recognizes the financial burden of the naturalization process and offers fee waivers for eligible individuals. In FY 2023, 14.6% of those naturalized had an approved fee waiver, demonstrating USCIS’s commitment to making the process accessible to all eligible applicants. USCIS
